Over my research career I have developed solutions for automated medical image analysis that has helped medical practitioners in achieving high accuracy in disease diagnosis and contributed towards a better and healthier society. I currently lead a team of researchers focused on building deep learning and artificial intelligence based systems for computer aided diagnosis from medical images. As part of a larger research team I have developed algorithms for retinal image quality quality classification, vasculature segmentation, diabetic retinopathy severity assessment and image super resolution of retinal images. Besides, retinal images I have applied deep learning algorithms for analysis of other medical images such as MRI, CT and OCT. I also have interests in computer vision problems such as object tracking and video analysis. My past research focused on developing computer algorithms for automatic and semi-automatic analysis of medical images for segmentation and abnormality detection in MR (cardiac, renal and prostate) images. Some of the tools I developed have been used by doctors in UK and Switzerland in getting a better understanding of MR images and extracting relevant information. I am an Economist and data scientist with more than eight years of research experience and analyzing large datasets related to macroeconomic variables, household and census surveys, and firm-level statistics. My research interest lies in exploring economic issues empirically and analyzing complex economic data using newly developed econometric methods and statistical tools. I am particularly interested in analyzing the factors that determine international tourism flows across countries. The aim of my research is to provide policy implications to support evidence-based policy making.
