Dr. Christian Wacker (Ph.D.) is a museum manager, museum developer, cultural educator, archaeologist and historian and received his Ph.D. for The Ancient Gymnasium in Olympia, at Würzburg University in Germany (1996). He had been Director of three museums, served as cultural instigator, managed more than three different collections and organized more than 50 exhibitions internationally during the last 25 years. He worked as an archaeologist at the excavation of ancient Olympia, Greece in the 90ies. After that he joined a scientific publishing house and led the marketing and editorial office. He also worked for several years as Head of Sales and Content in a museum exhibition company specialized for technology and digital applications. From 2005 to 2008, he directed the German Sports and Olympia Museum in Cologne and he had been the Director and Museum Developer of the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum in Doha, Qatar from 2008 to 2014. During his assignment in Qatar he also had been the manager of the exhibition hall katara and served partially as Acting Executive Director. Due to his broad knowledge in museology he was called 2014 to take over the responsibility to create a Museum Academy with an attached study program at the University in Freiburg, Germany. From 2018 to 2020 he worked as Museum Director at the Karl May Museum in Radebeul/Dresden to develop the future concept of the site. In Nov. 2020 he was appointed Director of the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre in Kuwait (until Nov. 2021). During all his assignments the last 25 years he always had been responsible for operations and management. He had been teaching at universities in Germany and Brazil as well as at the International Olympic Academy in Greece and published around 15 books and around 70 papers about Olympic history and education, museum studies and archaeology. During his time as Director of the Olympic museums in Germany and Qatar he had been an ordinary and active member of the interational Olympic Museum Network since its establishment. He is a member of various academic associations as well as the co-founder of the German Society for the History of Sports Science. From 2012 to 2020 he was Vice-President of the International Society of Olympic Historians, in 2020 he had been elected President of this Society. From 1988 to 2014 he had been President of the historical Oberhummer-Gesellschaft and President of the Olympic Collectors Association Prolympo since 2015. He edited two books about Sport in Museums in 2022.
