Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative high school mathematics teacher to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and teach four sections of mathematics and potentially one section of mechanical engineering.
- Able to teach the range of mathematics from algebra I through calculus.
- Learn and utilize the principles of KUA Design in the classroom and beyond.
- Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
- Teach using current pedagogical practices, including Universal Design for Learning, ward planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning, to equip students with the Future Ready Skills they need for college and beyond.
- Coach sports and/or lead activities.
- Advise a small cohort of students.
- Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities for six weekends per year.
- Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
- Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the ongoing collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum.
- Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field; a graduate degree in mathematics or education is strongly preferred.
- 3-6 years (or more) of teaching high school mathematics.
- Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
- Facility with educational LMS portals, Mac OS, tablet technologies, Microsoft 365, and other math education-enhancing products is preferred.
- Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred.
- Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
