Software Engineering Manager

Job Description:

• You will ​collaborate with the CTO to brainstorm and develop the strategic technology roadmap.
• You will pair with Product Management and be accountable for the outcomes delivered by the team. You will understand why the team is building functionality, for whom, and the value it will provide.
• You will have line management responsibility for the software engineers in your team, supporting their career growth via mentoring, regular 1-1s, performance reviews, and guidance.
• Coach, develop, and manage the engineering team through influential leadership, balancing the team's development objectives with the organization's needs.
• You will contribute to technical design and code reviews, providing coaching and development direction to your team members.
• Have a strong "sense of urgency"
• You lead from the front and spend 60% of your time designing and building the platform.

Requirements:

• BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent
• 6+ years of software development experience
• 2+ years of experience managing teams
• Mastery of system design principles - security, scalability, resilience, performance optimization, observability, automation, microservices, CI/CD, and other aspects of enterprise-grade software development.
• Experience with cloud computing - the ability to design a cloud system from scratch using infra as a coding methodology and be able to reason for the tradeoff between different architectures
• Experience with modern backend-end technologies like Node JS, Python, Java, Ruby,  and others
• Experience with modern front-end technologies like React JS, Vue JS, Angular, and others
• Have a Growth Mindset. We are building something new that does not exist; we do not have all the answers, but we are confident we can find them.
• Strong business and technical communication skills (verbal and written)
• You are a good team player, ready to help, debate, compromise, and work together
• You have led cross-functional initiatives and have experience working with functions outside of engineering
