Job Description
Work collaboratively with parents, students, school/community personnel in the development of clear, measurable IEP goals and objectives that are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)Apply knowledge of human development and disabilities to plan and implement appropriate curriculum with appropriate accommodations, modifications, and adaptationsDocument ongoing student progress, retain and maintain accurate records, including but not limited to support and service logs, regular data collection on IEP targets and behavior (skill development and mastery) and progress updatesAdminister and analyze student assessment appropriately, including but not limited to state and district testing and informal criterion-referenced assessmentsDevelop Present Levels of Academic And Functional Performance (PLAAFP) and annual goals/objectives based on the results of administered student assessmentsPrepare, organize, and implement lesson plans that are developmentally and age-appropriate based on student IEPs, including behavior intervention plans and accommodations/modifications of materials and curriculumUse appropriate adaptive and assistive technology as documented in the ARD and/or recommended by related service providers to facilitate learning, communication, mobility, and positioningDirect, train, assign and oversee the activities of an educational setting paraprofessional, aide, and provide input into performance evaluation processAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesAbility to work with children/adolescents with severe behavioral issuesStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsConduct instructional or other professional activities consistent with the requirements of state and federal lawsSafeguard confidentiality about students with disabilitiesBe able to stand, sit, walk, bend, and learn Safe Crisis Management restraint procedureMust work shortened schedule in the summerThe following are the minimum requirement for employment: English Proficiency: Proficiency in writing and speaking EnglishSpecial Education Certification (Grade EC-12): Valid Texas Teacher Certificate issued by the State Board for Educator CertificationGeneral Education Certification: Valid Texas Teacher Certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification in a general education subject. EC-6 generalist, 4-8 generalist, or high school core subjects required.Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with web-based and cloud applications to manage student curriculum and reportingExperience: (Preferred) Experience teaching children and adolescents with one or more severe mental illness and/or intellectual and social disabilities.All applicants must complete a stringent application process including a national FBI fingerprint background check and a drug screen to start to hiring process.
