Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and accounting software. This role offers an opportunity to work across various accounting disciplines, including corporate, governmental, and non-profit sectors, with a focus on maintaining accurate financial records and supporting strategic financial management. The Accountant will play a key role in ensuring adherence to GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while providing insightful financial analysis to support organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets in accordance with GAAP and other regulatory standards.
- Manage general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation processes.
- Conduct accounts payable and receivable processing, including invoice review and payment processing.
- Perform bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to ensure accurate cash management.
- Maintain accurate journal entries, double entry bookkeeping, and ledger updates using various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements and assist with audit preparations by providing necessary documentation.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and other internal policies related to financial reporting.
- Assist with tax preparation and experience related to tax filings or tax software is a plus.
- Mentor junior staff or interns in accounting procedures and best practices.
- Participate in financial analysis projects including forecasting, budgeting, and financial management initiatives.
- Interpret financial reports for management decision-making and provide insights into financial concepts such as accrual accounting, debits & credits, and financial statement interpretation.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or equivalent systems.
- Strong understanding of corporate accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping and journal entries.
- Experience with non-profit accounting, governmental accounting, or public accounting is advantageous.
- Familiarity with LIHTC regulations, securities law, wills & estate law is a plus.
- Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately.
- Skilled in financial report writing and interpretation for diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct cash flow analysis and financial analysis effectively.
- Competency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting tasks; experience with other financial software is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of budgeting processes, accrual accounting, general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable processing, payroll support, and regulatory compliance.
