Job Opportunity: Experienced Accountant (2+ Years) - Millennium Tiles Uganda
Millennium Tiles Uganda, a leading player in the manufacturing sector, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Experienced Accountant to join our finance team in Kampala. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional ready to manage daily accounting operations, ensure strict compliance, and provide reliable analytical support in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
As our Accountant, you will be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of our financial records across these core areas:
I. Core Accounting & Record Keeping
- Transaction Management: Accurately record, verify, and process all daily financial transactions (sales, purchases, receipts, and payments), ensuring correct ledger classification.
- General Ledger (GL) Maintenance: Proactively manage and reconcile the GL, ensuring all postings are timely and align perfectly with our Chart of Accounts.
- Reconciliations: Ensure timely reconciliation of all bank accounts and meticulously manage and reconcile the petty cash.
- Payables & Receivables (AP/AR): Oversee the full cycle of supplier payments (AP) and customer invoicing/debt collection follow-up (AR).
- Fixed Assets: Maintain a current Fixed Assets Register, handling additions, disposals, and calculating/posting monthly depreciation.
II. Manufacturing & Cost Accounting Support
- Inventory Oversight: Collaborate with the operations team to reconcile physical inventory counts with system records for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Cost Tracking: Assist in tracking production costs and help identify and report variances between budgeted and actual costs.
- Tally ERP Utilization: Effectively perform all necessary data entry, reporting, and reconciliation tasks directly within the Tally ERP system to maintain real-time financial records.
III. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports (Trial Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet) for management review.
- Analysis: Conduct variance analysis, comparing actual performance against budgets, and highlight significant deviations to the Finance Manager/Director.
- Liquidity: Provide essential reports on cash flow and outstanding payables/receivables to support effective treasury functions.
IV. Compliance, Tax, and Audit
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure accurate computation, preparation, and timely filing of all required statutory returns with URA, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and NSSF.
- Internal Controls: Strictly adhere to and help enforce established internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
- Audit Readiness: Ensure all financial records are properly documented, organized, and readily accessible for smooth internal and external audits.
Required Qualifications & Skills Summary
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related business field.
- Professional Qualification (Highly Desirable): Progress towards or completion of a recognized professional qualification (e.g., CPA (Uganda), ACCA, or CIMA).
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of proven, hands-on experience in accounting, ideally gained within a manufacturing or production environment in Uganda.
- Software Proficiency (Mandatory): Strong, proven working knowledge of Tally ERP is essential. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel for analysis and reporting is also required.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of Ugandan tax laws and generally accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP/IFRS).
- Personal Attributes: High level of integrity, acute attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively and independently.
Compensation and International Support
- Salary: Compensation is highly competitive; there will be no bar for the right candidate.
- Local Benefits: The company will provide Food, Accommodation, and Transport as part of the total employment package.
- International Travel & Visa Support:
- The company will cover all initial visa and flight charges for the first-time relocation.
- The company will provide flight tickets for home leave every two (2) years. Any interim travel is to be handled by the employee.
