We are currently seeking an Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate provides Accounting and Administrative support for the operations of the Finance Department, including Payables, Purchasing and Payroll. The Accountant will assist with financial reporting, payroll processing, invoice posting, maintaining files and records, preparing a variety of forms and reports, and maintaining office equipment.
The ideal candidate will possess attention to detail, analytical and thorough organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers. The candidate should be comfortable working independently while maintaining a team player attitude to ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day operations of the office.
Accountant Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides accounting support for SMMA Accounts Payable and Purchasing functions. (65%)
- Bi-weekly Accounts Payable invoice payment processing
- Continuous review of outstanding invoices to ensure payments are made timely
- Maintenance of the Accounts Payable filing system
- Accounting support to the Finance Department
- Maintain communication with vendors and departments (Operations, Services, Public Safety) to resolve invoice questions.
- Assistance with ad-hoc projects
- Research and resolve discrepancies
- Processes purchase orders and maintain files
- Maintains new vendor records (certificate of insurance, W9, credit application, agreements)
- Obtains fuel prices and places orders
2. Provides support for SMMA Payroll. (35%)
- Processes payroll within SMMA assigned frequencies, which includes compiling payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, deductions, and preparing and issuing paychecks.
- Maintains knowledge of Company’s values and strategic plan.
- Support published corporate policies.
- Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.
- Supports reconciliation of outstanding payroll checks with the Finance Dept. team.
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g. Paycom, ADP) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of tax regulations, labor laws, and wage structures.
- Strong understanding of payroll systems, processes, and compliance requirements.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
Accountant Requirements and Qualifications
- Associates degree required.
- More than three years of related experience required.
- Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Office and databases
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central)
- Maintain constant communication with Manager and other team members
