Responsibilities:
The Finance & Accounting Team has fiduciary responsibility for financial aspects of our end-to-end business, including all accounting and regulatory facets of Product, from 'Farm to Fork' ... Facilities, from 'Greenfield to Sunset' ... and Partners, from 'Recruit to Retire.' The team also oversees our Mexico Division's accounting, tax, and finance operations.

As a Sales and Use Tax Accounting Analyst I, you will be part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment responsible for managing the preparation of a variety of sales and miscellaneous tax compliance filings, journal entries, and tax general ledger account reconciliations. You will be committed to excellence in compliance and customer service, while monitoring/implementing changing tax regulations, employing critical thinking skills and engage in supporting company initiatives/new activities. You will perform research and provide guidance on the sales tax treatment on items and projects throughout the company.

We are looking for:

What is the work?
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly/annual tax compliance returns (Sales & Use, Heavy Vehicle, Fuel, Mixed Beverage, etc.)
  • Prepares monthly tax journal entries and works in PeopleSoft Financials to post entries.
  • Analyzes and prepares general ledger account reconciliations and account balance variances.
  • Responsible for supporting the development and use of numerous tax accrual systems/processes to ensure tax is being properly charged or accrued.
  • Monitors and stays current on sales tax rates and laws; implement or quantify potential changes.
  • Works closely with management on issues related to tax compliance, tax legislation, or tax planning initiatives.
  • Provides support to internal teams (Procurement/Store/E-commerce accounting, Construction, Legal) across the company to ensure accurate sales and use tax is applied to transactions.
  • Learn and maintain different modules of Vertex Sales Tax software.
  • Interpret and apply state tax laws by analyzing regulations, tax code, letter rulings and court cases involving the treatment of item taxability.
  • Research and create sales tax exemption certificates, as requested by the business.
  • Oversee the Tax Calendar application to guarantee timely filings and monitoring compliance deadlines.
  • Gathers information and prepares corporate tax performance metrics.
  • Uses tax research tools and participates in webinars and other training to enhance tax knowledge.
  • Manages out of state compliance requirements including registrations, annual reports, extensions, notification responses, and more.
  • Develops strong working relationships with colleagues across the company.
  • Be willing to cross-train and assist in other tax compliance projects (state income tax or other tax related)
  • Works on special projects and performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Establishes / maintains accurate detailed financial records.
  • Documents / communicates changes to assigned accounting processes.
  • Gains process / system expertise.
  • May provide guidance for lower-level Partners.

What is your background?
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in H-E-B accounting roles, or
  • 4+ years of broad-based accounting functions
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and Vertex Sales tax software, a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel, accounting general ledger systems, and tax research software, a plus.
