Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Company Overview
We are a mid-sized and growing residential contracting company specializing in building high-quality homes. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team. This role is vital to keeping our financial operations accurate, timely, and compliant as we continue to expand.
Position Summary
The Accounting Specialist will manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll processing, and monthly bank reconciliations. As time permits, other accounting duties will be included in the position responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of construction-related accounting processes, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices and subcontractor bills, ensuring accuracy and proper coding to jobs and cost categories
- Verify purchase orders, contracts, and receipts prior to payment
- Maintain vendor records and manage payment schedules
- Resolve discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries
Accounts Receivable
- Prepare and issue customer invoices and progress billings
- Track receivables and follow up on outstanding balances
- Maintain accurate customer account records
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely and accurate billing
Payroll
- Process monthly payroll for field and office staff
- Verify timesheets, job cost allocations, and approved hours
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Handle payroll tax filings and reporting in coordination with external payroll services (if applicable)
- Coordinate information needed for health care benefits, Paid Time Off, and other payroll related benefits
Bank Reconciliations
- Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Assist with cash flow tracking and reporting
General Accounting & Support
- Assist with month-end closing procedures
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records
- Prepare supporting documentation for audits, financial reviews, and tax returns
- Support the Controller with additional tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or contracting
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software
- Understanding of job costing and construction billing
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
