This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Legal Studies who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in assigned courses within the Legal Studies program. Teaching responsibilities may include classroom, online, or technology-supported formats, as well as maintaining professional competency in the discipline. The instructor is expected to create engaging, learner-centered environments that promote understanding of legal concepts and real-world application of knowledge in the paralegal field. Adjunct faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, innovation in teaching, and Amarillo College’s culture, supporting both academic excellence and equitable learning opportunities.
EDUCATION
Required: Associate’s Degree or higher in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a closely related field.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCEPreferred: Prior post-secondary teaching experience in legal studies, paralegal, or related law courses.
CERTIFICATIONSRequired: National Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and/or Board Certification from the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
- Teach assigned Legal Studies course(s) using effective, engaging, and student-centered instructional methods and techniques.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that encourage participation and application of legal concepts.

Prepare and utilize a course syllabus for each class in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines.

Plan, develop, and deliver organized classroom, online, and/or technology-supported instruction aligned with approved course outcomes.

Evaluate and document student progress through assignments, assessments, and exams, providing timely and constructive feedback.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and performance.

Meet with and advise students before or after class, by appointment, or through electronic communication.

Participate in curriculum development, course revisions, and program evaluation to ensure continuous improvement and relevance.

Design and implement assessments that measure and support student learning outcomes.

Submit required reports, grades, and documentation accurately and within established deadlines.

Attend meetings, trainings, orientations, and professional development activities as required.

Engage in effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and mentoring students in coursework, research, and internships.

Perform other work-related duties as required.

TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary).
Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
