Job Duties:
The Administrative Assistant position provides administrative support and management services primarily the Director of Facilities and Programs with Juvenile Justice and secondarily Facilities and Programs Staff. This position reports directly to the Director but works in close coordination with the Divisions Chief of Staff and is located at Central Office in Raleigh, NC.

This position's job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing workflow and operations for the Director's Office

  • Coordinating tasks or duties with other staff within the organization

  • Communicating consistently with Upper Management, program staff, representatives of other State agencies/universities, elected/appointed representatives, and the public

  • Overseeing the Director's calendar and schedule to ensure efficient time allocation and prioritization

  • Preparing reports, executive summaries, and other items for the Director

  • Arranging procurement of supplies and materials for the Director's office

  • Arranging and coordinating travel logistics for the Director

  • Composing correspondence and other products as needed independently

  • Opening official correspondence and reviewing incoming documents for completeness/correctness prior to forwarding for signature/approval

  • Performing other additional duties, as needed, assigned by the Director

Facility Operations has direct responsibility for five (5) state-operated Youth Development Centers (YDC) and eight (8) state operated juvenile detention centers and the statewide – juvenile transportation services. Facility. Operations is responsible for the external monitoring of four (4) contracted juvenile facilities. Youth development centers are secure, residential facilities which provide mentoring, education, and therapeutic treatment for delinquent youth committed to the Department by the courts in order to prepare the youth to successfully return to the community. Juvenile detention centers temporarily house youth who are alleged to have committed delinquent offenses or who have been adjudicated and await disposition or placement. Facility Operations operates under the guidance of the Deputy Secretary for Juvenile Justice. The Section leadership is staffed with a Director of Facility Operations, three (3), Regional Mangers, a Program Coordinator, an Administrative Services Manager, two (2) Program Managers, a Transportation Manager, two (2) transportation coordinators, and (1) clerical staff. Within this section also includes Educational Services and Child Nutrition staff. This staff has the primary responsibility to provide supervision, guidance and oversight to the management and staff in each facility.

Military Experience
