The Marketing, Communications and Finance Intern will get:

  • Hands-on experience in nonprofit content strategy and creation

Position Overview:

This position will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's marketing, communications, and finance efforts.

Key Responsibilities – Administrative, Marketing, & Communications:

  • Shadow President and CEO of Rogerson Communities
  • Attend select meetings with the President & CEO of Rogerson Communities.
  • Content Strategy: The intern will work closely with the Director, Marketing & Communications and Writer/Editor to create a scalable content strategy for the organization.
  • Research: The intern will conduct research on competitors in the space, keyword research on content topic areas, and stay on top of, and report on, industry trends that impact content strategy
  • Content Creation: The intern will assist the team in creating written and/or visual content as it pertains to the implemented strategy.
  • Additional marketing & communications tasks as needed

Key Responsibilities - Finance:

  • Data Gathering & Reconciliation
  • Pull and validate financial data from multiple systems (e.g. Yardi, general ledger, internal reports)
  • Assist with account reconciliations (balance sheet accounts, intercompany, accruals, prepaid)
  • Support audit preparations by organizing schedules, backup support, and documentation

2. Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Assist in preparing departmental or entity-level budgets: collect input, consolidate, and format
  • Update forecasts vs. actuals; help analyze variances and trends
  • Contribute to rolling forecasts and scenario modeling
  • Work with property/departmental managers to gather assumptions and inputs

3. Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Help produce monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flows)
  • Analyze trends, ratios, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Prepare variance analysis (actual vs. budget, prior year, forecast)
  • Build ad hoc reports or dashboards for management review

4. Modeling & Projections

  • Develop simple financial models (e.g. sensitivity, “what-if” scenarios)
  • Assist in capital budgeting analysis (project cost/benefit, return on investment)

5. Cross-Departmental Projects & Support

  • Participate in special projects (system enhancements, process improvements, integrations)
  • Collaborate with operations, property management, compliance teams for financial input
  • Support grant or fund accounting, restricted fund tracking, or compliance reporting (if applicable)

6. Presentation & Communication

  • Prepare PowerPoint / Excel slides summarizing findings, trends, or proposals
  • Assist in senior management presentations, board packages, or finance committee materials

7. Learning & Training

  • Shadow senior financial staff (CFO, Controller, FP&A Manager) to learn internal practices
  • Participate in training on internal systems, tools, and finance best practices
  • Take on increasingly complex tasks as competence grows

Qualifications:

  • Interest in marketing & communications
  • Enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a college or university program in a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Google products and WordPress is preferred.
  • Experience with marketing CRMs is a plus.
  • Interest in gerontology/supporting older adults is a plus
