This temporary position is located in 4312 District Dr - Wake County with the Department of Health and Human Services.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $23.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Management Preferences:

  • This role is essential in ensuring timely, accurate, and professional communication between the OCME, District Attorney’s offices, law enforcement, and internal medical staff.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal documentation processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, sensitive environment.
  • Key responsibilities include daily monitoring and management of both personal and shared legal email inboxes for requests related to subpoenas, trial testimony, meetings, and documentation.
  • The Legal Support Specialist will process subpoenas by printing, annotating, and updating tracking systems such as MEIS and internal spreadsheets.
  • This includes notifying pathologists, updating case records, managing calendars, and filing communications appropriately.
  • The role also includes processing document and photo requests through MEIS, ensuring accuracy in selecting and preparing autopsy, investigation, and toxicology records, as well as restricted photos for authorized requestors.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills are critical to success in this role.
  • The specialist will maintain detailed records, calendars, and filing systems, and will regularly coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure that deadlines and court requirements are met.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential when handling legal correspondence and sensitive medical-legal information.
  • Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment, particularly when managing confidential materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required, and experience with or a willingness to learn case management systems is essential.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology, subpoena processing, and medical documentation is strongly preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
