Adult Basic Ed Teacher
Part-Time 12 months/136days/7 hrs a day
Schedule: Mon - Thursday, includes one evening
Locations: Metro North ABE - Adult Education Center- Columbia Heights/Fridley, 4111 Central Ave NE, Ste 100, Columbia Heights, 55421
Duties: Provide direct instruction to adults learning English as a Second Language and exploring career pathways. Develop and offer a new career pathway course in manufacturing. Support components of the Integrated English Literacy and Civics grant and work with project partners. Support students' use of a distance learning platform. Other responsibilities include developing employer contacts, compiling and writing curriculum, lesson planning and direct instruction, conducting ongoing assessment, monitoring student attendance, attending staff meetings, collaborating with other staff, keeping student records, participating in IET coaching and prof development, and supporting volunteers. Use communicative and cooperative teaching strategies during instruction. Integrate technology and implement the CCRS/ACES/NorthStar standards. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Current MN Teaching License, or ABE License, or Master's degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or bilingual education. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment. Ability to work as a team member. Technology skills required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with diverse populations preferred. Experience teaching adult ESL learners in an academic program, experience and ease in working with technology preferred. Experience using communicative teaching strategies during instruction and integrating technology into learning is also preferred.
