Your Impact
As our Medical Benefits Analyst, you will:
Documentation
-
Ensure inpatient substance abuse benefits are clearly and accurately documented and can be easily translated by the admissions and patient financial services staff.

Special benefit considerations are clearly documented and easily identified.

Assists Admissions staff with incoming calls; logs in initial patient information to database and initiates admissions process. Assists the Admissions Staff when a systems error occurs within Stockell or Tier specifically regarding insurance benefits. When applicable initial payments are documented correctly in Tier and Stockell.

Ensures financial consents are entered and verbiage is added as necessary. Updates the benefit handbook as needed.
Coordination
-
Ensures initial payments, Payor Code and Payor Organization information is consistent.

Advises Utilization Review, Patients Accounts and Billing Departments of insurance protocols.
Admissions
-
Assists Admissions staff with incoming calls.
-
Recognizes when a potential patient with physical or psychiatric conditions needs to be referred to the Admissions Nurse Case manager for medical approval.

Completes assigned callbacks in a timely manner.
-
Prepares in advance for scheduled admissions.
-
Greets and welcomes patients and family members upon arrival. Obtains necessary releases.

Ensures Releases of Information are properly created for the appropriate parties.

Notifies Referral Source upon admission.

When applicable, completes thorough and accurate initial managed care clinical reviews based on DSMIV codes and ASAM criteria; documents outcome.
Call Handling
-
Responds to callers and insurance representatives politely. Answers questions appropriately.
Insurance / Benefit Processes
-
Communicates our type of facility and the services provided effectively to obtain accurate benefit information.

Maintains resources for insurance verification purposes. Assists Case Managers with aftercare benefit information.

Completes insurance verifications as assigned.
Difficult Situations
-
Identifies difficult situations and refers to supervisor.
Financial Services
-
Assists the Patient Financial Services Department and/or Patient Accounts Representatives regarding payment or insurance problems.
What You Bring
-
High School; college preferred.
-
Knowledge of medical insurance.
-
Good verbal and written skills; read and understand insurance requirements.
-
Some financial background helpful; good arithmetic skills.
-
Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel. C

PR certification.
-
Glean information from insurance companies or managed care companies, patients and families and determine benefits allowed. Communicate information clearly to staff, patients and families.
