Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's commercial service is running in five cities, and the associated infrastructure is in an early stage. Investment is required for Waymo to grow into a high scale, world-class service.

Come join the Waymo TaaS (Transportation as a Service) organization to own the critical Booking experience, which serves as the "front door" into the Waymo Marketplace. In this high-impact role, you will design and optimize the systems and user experience to maximize booking conversion and boost rider engagement. Your work will be crucial in translating the Waymo Driver's capabilities into a scalable and profitable commercial service for the future of autonomous mobility.

In this hybrid role, you will report to an Engineering Manager.

You will:

  • Work on a small team that builds the core hailing flow for an Android application that hails and controls Waymo autonomous cars. You’ll be focusing on premium and innovative flows that help users plan, create, and manage their trip — giving riders powerful features with best-in-class UX.
  • Create delightful Android components and flows using modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose.
  • Build features which inspire trust in autonomous vehicle systems. The team works with UX designers and researchers, product managers, and vehicle software engineers to bring this technology to customers.

You have:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Android development
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose in a production environment
  • Passion for building user-facing products with a focus on pixel-perfect UI
  • Experience partnering with product managers and designers
  • Background in test-driven development

We prefer:

  • Full-stack experience
  • Experience building and maintaining shared Android libraries, SDKs, or components
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling, and optimization tools
  • Familiarity with dependency injection frameworks like Dagger
