The Applied Sport Science Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Sport Science to provide sport science services to student athletes, with a primary focus on performance, development, recovery, and overall health. This role will serve as the primary liaison for Olympic Sport teams as assigned by the Director of Sport Science, while also assisting with the University of Oklahoma Football Team. As part of the role and responsibilities with athletic teams, this position will serve as an essential member of the multidisciplinary performance team. Further, this position will manage the daytoday operation of the sport science lab, the sport science lab calendar, and the sport science student worker program. In addition to the applied sport science responsibilities, this position will support our Performance Research & Analytics Coordinator in storage, hygiene, analysis, visualization, and overall stewardship of performancerelated data.

Essential Functions

Report directly to the Director of Sport Science and collaborate closely with coaching, performance, dietetics, and medical staff to support student
  • athletes, teams, and performance science initiatives
  • Assists Director of Sport Science with maintaining ongoing communications with coaching staff, strength & conditioning staff, athletic trainers, team physicians, mental health staff, and administration regarding performance science and research/development
  • Assist in the development of student
  • athletes’ physical loading plans, monitoring group and individualized responses, guiding recovery participation, and ensuring effective communication between coaches, performance team members, and athletes
  • Collect, manage, and analyze performance data from a variety of sources (GPS, wearables, physical testing, etc.), ensuring that data is accurate, actionable, and integrated into the department’s performance management systems
  • Support and/or lead the development of scalable systems and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of load monitoring and return to play decisionmaking through standardized, action
  • oriented processes
  • Assists with individual and team game day operations related to preparation assessments (e.g., kinetic, and kinematic analysis, workload, and preparedness monitoring) and recovery strategies
  • Deliver meaningful performance insights to coaches, performance staff, medical staff, and other relevant personnel to assist with decision
  • making on player development and recovery strategies
  • Assist in tracking and reporting on individual player progress, focusing on physical performance metrics and injury risk mitigation
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss player monitoring, injury prevention strategies, and training interventions
  • Assists with research, analysis, and translation of scientific inquiry and studies sport science initiatives to remain upto
  • date with industry trends and standards
  • Assists departmental collaboration with the OU Heath and Exercise Science department on research techniques and data analytics
  • Develop effective educational presentations, consensus statements, best practices and handout materials for staff and student athlete education
  • Position includes leadership responsibilities related to leading assigned teams, managing biomechanics instruments and assessments, and mentoring of student worker curriculum
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Sport Science

Job Requirements


Required Education and
Experience: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Neuroscience, Data Analytics or related field from an accredited college or university AND:

  • 24 months of experience working with an NCAA institution or professional sports team, and athlete load monitoring in an applied sports setting.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of experience.

Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of performance science practices.
  • Ability to work a non
  • standard work week, including breaks, holidays, and weekends.
  • Capability of delegating tasks/duties effectively and efficiently to department members.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and recovery tools, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of data management, analysis, and data visualization.
  • Competent in coding language (preferably R), data analysis (R, SAS, SPSS, JASP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies (NCAA).

Certifications:

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Regular pressure to meet productivity standards.
  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.
  • Potential travel with various teams possible.
  • Standard office environment.

Physical working requirements:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively.
  • Exposure to temperature changes.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including in the heat and cold.

Supervision: Multiple student workers.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Master’s or PhD in Sport Science, Physiology, Biomechanics, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS) and / or CSCS certification from NSCA preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a similar role, in college or professional sports environment.
  • Significant and recent experience working with Catapult GPS, Hawkin Dynamics Force Plates, and Vald Suite of products.
  • Experience programming language (preferably R, Python), and statistical analysis software (R, SAS, SPSS, JASP, etc.).
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.
  • Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies (NCAA).
  • Ability to work a non
  • standard work week, including breaks, holidays, and weekends.
