Art teachers at We Care Arts(WCA) are responsible for direct service of the WCA program through the creation of curriculum, implementation of curriculum based on program effectiveness, classroom management, and direct support of clients. The primary responsibilities include executing the programs of WCA to various audiences and advancing program efforts by implementing programs that establishes the organization as the identified supportive art expert in the Miami Valley region. The position works closely with, and reports to the Education and Curriculum Manager. The art teacher will also team up with key staff, appropriate volunteers, and other art teachers as needed.

Key General Class Related Tasks

  • Compile monthly reporting data, working closely with Education and Curriculum Manager to ensure complete and accurate work by the education team
  • Develop standardized curriculum, and teach a variety of art skills and mediums to participating client artists
  • Collaborate with leadership and the education team to ensure the development of ongoing and fiscally responsible art projects to impact clients as well as the development of marketable artworks.
  • Work closely with the Education and Curriculum Manager to ensure that your curriculum is following the guidelines in place to help create a universal WCA experience.
  • Assist clients in the planning and completion of projects to keep projects on schedule, and teach project planning, perseverance, and follow through
  • Report to the classroom in a timely manner to ensure clients are receiving a full experience. Teachers are responsible for providing supervision of their class/studio for the entirety of class session, and seeking support from other staff if they need to leave the classroom for any reason.
  • Train and work with volunteers and interns to maintain a consistent client experience
  • Create and maintain an orderly and neat art work space in all areas of the building. Model responsible stewardship of supplies, and workspaces.
  • Guide and encourage client artists’ work and behavior to maintain an inclusive community environment
  • Ability to travel for outreach classes locally
  • Ability to teach virtually over Zoom or Teams, and the ability to make step by step videos.
  • Attend staff meetings, participate in required trainings and attend staff in-service training days.
  • Other Duties as necessary

Key Data Management Tasks

  • Aid in the timely compiling of monthly paperwork, working closely with Education and Curriculum Manager to ensure complete and accurate work by the teaching team
  • Establish goals for each individual client artist and document regularly as instructed to ensure successful program effectiveness tracking (and billing as appropriate)
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and detailed records on each client artist
  • Attend a monthly meeting with the Education and Curriculum Manager to update personal review of performance
  • Ensure all maintained records and reporting are submitted in a timely manner
  • Maintain documentation to highlight WCA programs, artwork, and artists in order to help tell the WCA story to our community patrons
  • As needed support the collection and reporting necessary to ensure the success of all WCA external accreditations including but not limited to the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Ohio Department of
  • Developmental Disabilities (DODD), Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OHMHAS) and Ohio Department of Education (ODE) standards
  • Dedicate 15 minutes of each shift to provide documentation, and progress reporting on each client
  • Report and submit all initial documentation for Unexpected Incident (UI) within 24 hours of the incident following all WCA procedural protocols
  • Report and submit all initial documentation for Major Unexpected Incident (MUI) within 4 hours of the incident following all WCA procedural protocols

Work Environment:

We Care Arts is a diverse and inclusive community. It operates in a variety of environments that includes a professional office, classroom, retail, and virtual environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. They may be required to learn specialized equipment to facilitate the teaching and production of artwork by our artists. They must be able to work on a computer for extended parts of the day, as well as maneuver throughout the We Care Arts campus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend to pick up objects weighing up to 25 pounds to move within the We Care Arts facilities.
