Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Art Teacher (K-12) with specialized experience in Special Education to join our dedicated team of educators. This paid position is open exclusively to certified teachers committed to fostering creativity, expression, and artistic skills among students with diverse learning needs. As an Art Teacher in our inclusive environment, you will inspire students to explore their artistic potential while integrating tailored instructional strategies that support learners with disabilities, including autism and developmental disabilities. Your role will be vital in creating an engaging, supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes growth, confidence, and a love for the arts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive art curricula aligned with state standards and individualized education programs (IEPs) for students across all K-12 grade levels.
  • Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate various art mediums, techniques, and creative writing to enhance students’ artistic skills and self-expression.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, including autism and other developmental challenges, utilizing applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques and behavioral therapy strategies.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques to foster a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, parents, and administrators to monitor student progress through assessments, standardized testing, and ongoing evaluations.
  • Incorporate learning technology tools such as digital art software and online resources to enrich instruction and facilitate student engagement.
  • Provide mentorship and support to students needing additional tutoring or academic advising in arts-related subjects like creative writing or literacy education.

Skills

  • Proven classroom management skills with experience working with children with disabilities in a special education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development tailored for diverse learners, including expertise in IEP implementation and accommodations.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating effectively with colleagues, parents, and support staff.
  • Proficiency in using learning technology platforms and digital tools for arts instruction.
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with other developmental disabilities using behavioral therapy techniques such as applied behavior analysis (ABA).
  • Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and assessment methods within educational settings.
  • Ability to proofread instructional materials for clarity and accuracy following AP style or Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
