Job Summary:
Provides daily revised 3-week work plans for individual crews, as directed by the Asphalt Operations Manager, which install key 60 Department revenue generating work items or performs work task with increased risk. Assist individual Project Managers with WZD’s and DWP’s as required by 60 Dept. Department, Group or Operations Managers.
Provides a 3-week work plan to the Asphalt Field Supervisors Group by 3:00 p.m. daily. This group also includes the Asphalt Department Manager, Group Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager, Plant Manager, Quality Control Manger, Transportation Manager necessary to support the 60 Department Filed personnel with Safe, Quality and Efficiency daily operations. Weekly, a 6 Month Asphalt Look Ahead schedule will be updated and exported to the group.
As an entry level O.E., while training in developing and communicating Weekly and Daily Asphalt work plans, the position will require cross training with Asphalt Plant (mix manufacturing) and Laboratory (mix analysis, testing and reporting) duties as directed by the Department Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains daily revisions to the Asphalt 3 Week Look Production Planner through detailed planning, communication and coordination with the Asphalt Supervisors group, and also exports the report daily to the Asphalt Supervisors Group (referenced above) by 3:00 pm daily.
- Provides a weekly update of the Asphalt Department 6 Month Look Ahead Schedule to the Asphalt Supervisors Group (referenced above), presents the 6 month look ahead at the weekly Asphalt Supervisors meeting and posts the schedule in the shared database.
- Assist the Project Manager to develop a WZD of each project (Work Zone Diagram) which depicts the project limits, key project information including but not limited to the overall scope, sequence and scheme of the anticipated work items and general plan.
- Assist the Project Manager to develop a detailed DWP (Daily Work Plans) for 60 Department projects, as assigned, that serves to remove constraints necessary to install key field work to the Safety, Quality and Efficiency standards.
- Assist Project Managers, and 60 Department Estimators, with the WZD or DWP process on select advanced sequence and duration planning on bid projects.
- Assure that the 3 Week, 6 Month, WZD or DWP focus on the primary objective of achieving the established 60 Department SQ&E standards. Safety Standard = No Incidents, Quality Standard = No Uncompensated Rework and Efficiency Standard = Utilization of the Most Efficient Means to Install the Work.
- Daily work plans (DWP’s) should include, but not be limited to, defined work area, work activity/pay item description, unit of measure, unit per shift accompanied by units per man hour and necessary personnel, needed equipment, production rate per hour, per feet or per minute, and the relative required project specification for the activity/item.
- When necessary, the daily work plan will include other such details such as key predecessor make certain task concerning safety and other action items, quality control checks, and verification procedures, and project documentation items.
- The O.E. will maintain a database of Draft WZD’s as well as IFC WZD’s.
- The O.E. will cross train, as directed by the Department Manager and Group Manager, in plant operations and controls, mix design, analysis and testing as well as job costing on work plans as developed, reviewed, modified and executed.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational and experience will include a Construction Management degree or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain a LADOTD Level I asphalt laboratory quality control technician certification.
- General experience with the unique processes associated with the asphalt industry.
- Ability to obtain working knowledge of Excel, CMiC and Procore software
- Necessary ability to interact professionally with company personnel and project owners.
- Proficient communication skills include verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational.
- Ability to commit to the company values.
- Ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. including the vehicle connection to the asphalt coring rig.
