Description
The City of Fishers is seeking, under the direction, supervision, and control of the City Attorney, an assistant City Attorney to serve a wide variety of municipal functions to the protect the legal interests of the City and its departments, offices, officials, boards, commissions and agencies.
Examples of Duties
- Represents the City in City Court and oversees the City's deferral program
- Performs legal research and analysis
- Reviews contract specifications to ensure the City's interests are protected
- Prepares and/or reviews contracts, and other written instruments to which the City is a party
- Drafts ordinances, resolutions, opinion letters and other legal papers for the City and its departments, boards, commissions and other agencies
- Prepares and responds to legal pleadings and discovery documents
- Provides advice on legal issues to City officials
- Attends meetings to respond to legal questions and represent City's legal interests
- Ensures City compliance with relevant codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; recommends or initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations
- Performs other related duties as required by the City Attorney
Minimum Qualifications
- JD degree;
- One (1) to five (5) years law experience;
- Must possess and maintain in good standing a license to practice law in the state of Indiana;
- Ability to carry out work assignments with minimal direct supervision;
- Ability to manage or coordinate multiple tasks or activities simultaneously;
- Ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines;
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and interpretation regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations;
- Ability to communicate effectively;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information and documents;
- Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing word processing, legal research, e-mail and other software applications as may be necessary to perform essential job functions;
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required.
