POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Merchant provides essential support to the Senior Merchant and Merchandising team in bringing new products to life—from concept through delivery. This role blends creative thinking with analytical precision, offering the opportunity to contribute ideas while ensuring flawless execution across product setup, vendor communication, and timeline management.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a genuine curiosity about how great products are developed and marketed. This is a hands-on role with room to grow for someone eager to learn the business of merchandising in a collaborative, design-driven environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Senior Merchant and Merchandising team on daily product development and purchasing activities.
  • Maintain product information across spreadsheets, databases, and creative briefs with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Track and organize samples, shipments, and product archives to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Assist in preparing product setup sheets, assortment plans, pricing lists, and sales presentations.
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to confirm product details, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Conduct product and market research to identify emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Help prepare presentation materials and product briefs for internal reviews and leadership meetings.
  • Coordinate timelines to ensure milestones are met for development, photography, and production.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions and assortment planning with creative input grounded in market insight.
  • Perform administrative and organizational tasks that ensure smooth day-to-day merchandising operations.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • 1–2 years of related experience in retail, merchandising, product development, or marketing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through; accuracy and consistency are second nature.
  • Highly organized and proactive, able to manage multiple priorities and anticipate next steps.
  • Strong blend of creative intuition and analytical thinking—comfortable with both visual storytelling and data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in all vendor and cross-functional interactions.
  • Desire to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
