Associate / Counsel – Insurance Defense

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 2–3 days in office near Grand Central Station)


A well-established and nationally recognized insurance defense firm is seeking talented Associates and Counsel to join its growing New York team . This is a growth-driven, full-time opportunity within a stable, collaborative environment known for its strong team culture and long-term career development.


About the Role:

You’ll work on high-exposure insurance defense matters, including general liability and premises liability claims , many involving claims exceeding $1M . The role offers significant client contact and opportunities to handle complex files independently while collaborating closely with a highly respected team of litigators.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of insurance defense matters from inception to resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery responses; conduct depositions and court appearances
  • Work closely with senior attorneys and clients on strategy and case management
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality work product and efficient billing


Qualifications:

  • Admitted to the New York Bar (active status required; additional state licenses a plus)
  • 3–8 years of insurance defense experience in the New York market
  • 3–8 years = Associate level
  • 8+ years = Senior Counsel level
  • Solid background in general liability and premises liability defense
  • Strong writing, analytical, and client communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and bill efficiently (target: 1,920 hours annually )


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience and discussed individually following interview)
  • Bonus structure:
  • $10,000 bonus at 2,000 billable hours
  • Additional $7,500 for each 100-hour increment thereafter
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match , and flexible vacation policy
  • Hybrid schedule – typically 2–3 days in-office per week, flexible by team and workflow
  • Convenient Grand Central Station office location

This is a growth role within a collaborative and well-established team . The firm is intentionally expanding its New York practice, planning to add several attorneys in the coming months. Turnover is low, and the culture rewards teamwork, commitment, and excellence in client service.

This position is not a partnership-track role at this time; it’s ideal for attorneys who enjoy hands-on litigation experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Interview Process:

Initial interview via Zoom with the firm’s recruitment team. Following that, shortlisted candidates will meet with the New York Managing Partner, Regional Managing Partner, and two senior team partners .
