Associate Attorney

The Law Office of Alfredo Vasquez seeks a DC-barred Associate Attorney to join our growing real estate and civil litigation firm. Founded in 2020, the Law Office of Alfredo Vasquez serves clients in practice areas including landlord-tenant, partition of property, title disputes and other real estate matters. The firm also handles business disputes, commercial leasing and contracts. This hands-on opportunity provides an up-close view of how a small law firm is run and is ideal for self-starters who are new to or newly returning to the workforce.

The Associate Attorney will be responsible for client cases from start to finish, with a particular focus on DC landlord-tenant court and an opportunity to expand into other practice areas. Additional responsibilities include managing caseloads, attending client meetings, maintaining accurate case files, taking depositions, managing mediations and trying cases as required. The associate will collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals in the firm to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.

Practical, client-facing experience is preferred. Please indicate any experience taking depositions, determining case strategy or working with opposing counsel or other legal professionals, either as a practicing attorney or in a legal internship, clinic or practicum.

The firm is located in the metro-accessible Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC, and the Associate Attorney will be expected to work at least part-time in the office, with flexibility for some remote work. Spanish proficiency is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications

• Strong legal research, writing, and drafting skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in time management and organizational skills.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in the District of Columbia. Virginia bar membership a plus, but not required.

Salary and benefits

• Salary range $78,000 - $90,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
• Flexible days off and sick time, plus federal holidays. The firm is closed each year between Christmas Day and New Years' Day.
• Associate Attorney may enter into a profit-sharing agreement for cases or clients they bring to the firm.
• Contributions to a firm-sponsored retirement plan will be made after one year of employment.
• Firm-sponsored Continuing Legal Education and professional development.
