Join New Columbia Solar (NCS) in Washington, DC as an Associate Counsel and be part of our Legal team at the forefront of solar energy development!


NCS is a leading developer, owner, and operator of Commercial & Industrial solar projects in the Washington, DC area, with a focus on empowering businesses, municipalities, and institutions to achieve their sustainability goals. We are seeking a full-time Associate Counsel to support our business teams on transactional matters related to the development and financing of solar energy projects.


As a key member of our Legal team, you will work closely with internal business units to support transactional matters related to the development and financing of solar energy projects. This role offers exposure to renewable energy law and project finance, with opportunities for professional growth in a fast-growing company that values collaboration and work-life balance.


Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements for solar project development and financing.
  • Support project and corporate transactions, including tax equity, M&A, and real estate.
  • Maintain and update standard legal templates, forms, and processes.
  • Provide guidance on compliance, risk management, and general corporate matters.
  • Manage and assist with dispute resolution, contract enforcement, and related legal issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as legal counsel, preferably in renewable energy, real estate, or project finance.
  • Proficiency in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with renewable energy project development and financing transactions.
  • Familiarity with tax equity, M&A, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing external counsel and cross-functional business relationships.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
