Position Summary:
The Omaha Symphony seeks a strategic, people-focused human resources professional to serve as Associate Director of Human Resources and Finance. This role’s primary responsibility is leading the symphony’s Human Resources activities— including managing employee relations, ensuring labor regulation compliance, and leading the cultivation of workplace culture.
In addition, this role will be an integral part of the the finance team, participating in essential accounting and reporting functions.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resources
- Grow and sustain a positive, inclusive work environment that strengthens employee engagement at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, federal standards, and internal policies.
- Maintain and update employee handbook and personnel policies.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and exit processes.
- Conduct new hire check-ins, annual reviews, and staff evaluations.
- Administer employee benefits (health, dental, vision, 403(b), FSA/HSA, etc.) and serve as liaison with benefit providers.
- Manage paid time off accruals and balances.
- Maintain personnel files, oversee annual audits, and refine HR processes.
- Address employee relations matters, including performance, engagement, conflict resolution, and grievances.
- Coordinate onboarding, training and staff development opportunities.
- Support long-term HR strategies in succession planning, compensation structures, and organizational alignment.
Finance
- Process and record invoices, payroll data, and journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
- Learn and leverage finance and payroll systems for reporting and analytics.
- Collaborate with the Finance Director to implement process improvements (e.g., electronic vendor payments, enhanced reporting, etc.).
- Independently explore system capabilities, suggest improvements, and develop action plans.
- Balance transactional duties with project-based initiatives that improve efficiency.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required.
Experience & Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional HR experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of HR compliance, employment law, and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn finance/accounting functions; prior finance experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Outlook. Ability to learn new software applications as required.
Physical Demands:
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Equipment/Machinery Used:
- General Office Equipment (Computer, Telephone, Fax, Copier, Printer).
Other:
- This is an in-person role, with the option to work remotely one day per week.
- The Symphony covers much of the premium cost for individual medical insurance coverage, while employees are responsible for any additional cost for dependent or family coverage.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
