The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology is currently recruiting for an Associate Governmental Program Analyst to develop contracts, distribute work assignments, train Licensing Unit staff, and evaluate the most complex licensing applications.

Department Information
The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) protects and serves California consumers while ensuring a competent and fair marketplace. DCA educates consumers and protects professionals from unfair competition by unlicensed practitioners.
DCA is a unique and dynamic department consisting of 36 different boards, bureaus, a commission, and a program that license and regulate more than 3.4 million licensees in more than 280 license types including certificates, registrations, and permits. DCA has many exciting career opportunities available and is dedicated to hiring and retaining qualified employees.
The California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology is responsible for licensing cosmetologists, barbers, hairstylists, manicurists, estheticians, and electrologists, as well as the establishments where the services are performed. The mission of the Board is to ensure the health and safety of California consumers by promoting ethical standards and by enforcing the laws of the barbering and beauty industry. The Board employs a large and diverse team of technicians, field inspectors, analysts, and managers. Staff is responsible for the licensing, examinations, inspections, and enforcement of the barbering and beauty industry. Additionally, the Board is responsible for ensuring that there is a fair disciplinary appeal process in place. The Board has a licensee population of over 600,000, maintains a 19 million dollar budget, and operates out of the Sacramento headquarters office.
