Join the Louisiana Department of Health’s Bureau of Legal Services as an Attorney 1–4, providing high-level legal counsel on critical Medicaid and health policy matters. This role offers the opportunity to shape statewide initiatives, advise executive leadership, and work on complex legal projects that impact the lives of Louisiana citizens.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:


  • Provide specialized legal counsel
    to the Office of the Secretary and LDH leadership on Medicaid policy, rulemaking, eligibility, and compliance matters.
  • Advise on and support Medicaid programs such as Eligibility Quality Control (MEQC); Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM); Long Term Care, Medicaid Long Term Care; Federal Data Sources and Compliance Audits; Medicaid Procurements and Contracts; Medicaid Advance Planning Documents; Medicaid Conditions for Enhanced Funding; Medicaid Systems; Compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA); and Louisiana Commission for the Deaf (LCD) and other LDH boards/commissions.
  • Draft, review, and interpret contracts, procurements, and advance planning documents to ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing Medicaid operations and funding.
  • Represent LDH in complex legal and litigation matters, including cases with department-wide or statewide significance involving state and federal Medicaid issues.
  • Ensure legal compliance and provide guidance on the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf, and other LDH boards and commissions.
  • Collaborate with managerial and administrative staff across LDH to deliver accurate legal advice, uphold ethical standards, and support sound decision-making within agency operations.

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER), as well as a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity.
Attorney 1 – $27.08 hr / $2,166.40 bi-weekly
Attorney 2 – $28.98 hr / $2,318.40 bi-weekly
Attorney 3 – $32.02 hr / $2,561.60 bi-weekly
Attorney 4 – $34.26 hr / $2,740.80 bi-weekly
