Automation Engineer specializing in Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Conceptualize and design automated robotic systems and SPMs using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). This includes creating detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and electrical schematics.
- System Integration: Oversee the integration of mechanical components, electrical control panels, robotic systems, vision systems, and sensors.
- Programming and Controls: Develop and program PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA, and HMI solutions, often using various brands like Siemens
- Component Selection: Determine and select appropriate commercial components, including motors, sensors, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, and safety relays, based on performance and cost.
- Collaboration and Support: Work with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, as well as production and quality assurance teams. Provide technical support and troubleshooting during the machine's lifecycle.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for design and drafting.
- Expertise in PLC programming, SCADA, HMI, and industrial networking protocols.
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and material properties.
- Experience with robotics, motion control, and vision systems is often preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for collaborating with teams and clients. Project management skills are also valuable for managing timelines and budgets.
