Scope of Position

The Bartender is responsible for ensuring guests satisfaction by mixing and serving cocktails for guests and filling server's orders. The Bartender will also serve food at the guest’s request. He/she will provide guests with efficient, accurate and genuine service possible and exceed guest expectations by always paying attention to guests’ needs.

Position Requirements

  • Professional demeanor appropriate for a luxury environment.
  • Outstanding guest service and communication skills.
  • Two years’ experience mixing and serving beverages in a high-quality resort or high-volume restaurant.
  • Ability to handle a multitude of tasks in an ever-changing environment with a sense of alertness.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of wines and the knowledge of popular cocktails.
  • Basic computer knowledge Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • A food handling certification must be completed within the first 90 days of employment.
  • TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certification must be completed within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Mix ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and juices to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
  • Serve extensive array of beverages and food.
  • Observe and monitor guests at the bar to respond to any and all needs the guests may have.
  • Adhere to all responsible alcohol consumption requirements as dictated by the state.
  • Inform management of all requests for check transfers by guests and assist in the process.
  • Slice fruit for the garnishing of drinks for entire bar.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly inventories as determined by management.
  • Secure all monies including register, tips, petty cash, etc.
  • Secure all liquor, wine and beverages through security procedures dictated by management.
  • Document all liquors and supplies that are pulled out of storage and into service to maintain bars.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the bar and integrity of the bar by removing empty or dirty glassware and bottles, completing all side duties and special projects as issued by management daily.
  • Use gloves, ice shovels and plastic swords to directly handle any ice or garnishes.
  • Set up and break down of all bar areas performed according to specific instructions as outlined on side work, diagrams and/or at the direction of management. Including the cleaning and positioning of all products (food, beverage, dry goods & equipment) which are used to service the guests at the bar. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Stocking, maintaining bars and/or cleaning all bar products (beverages and dry goods), surfaces, refrigerators/coolers, sinks, stainless steel equipment and surfaces, candle holders, mirrors, shelving, ashtrays, soda and holders, trash receptacles, ice bins, Micros/Point of Sale (POS) terminals and printers.
  • All beverages (beer, wine, soda, water, liquor, juice, etc.) service equipment (i.e., glassware, silverware, china), sword picks, all menus, garnishes (i.e., sliced fruit, whole fruit, spices), linens and paper napkins, cleaning rags, staplers and staples, ink cartridges, printer paper, credit card vouchers, hard checks, champagne buckets, and ice.
  • Save and count all empty liquor and wine bottles.
  • Use champagne stoppers to preserve all champagne.
  • Lock all bar refrigerators and beverage storage area.
  • Comply with all occupational, health and safety standards.
  • Assist in the safe preparation of the bar and its supplies for regularly scheduled exterminations.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
  • Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 50 pounds.
  • Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
