About the Organization
The Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. Board of Pensions and Health Benefits is a non-profit, faith-based organization dedicated to managing the self-insured health plan and pension plan for its members.
Basic Purpose
The Benefits Administrator will be responsible for the planning and administration of employee benefits within the Holston Conference. This role shall maintain and update employee records related to benefits, negotiate with vendors, assist conference staff and participants with resolving any benefit- related issue, and prepare monthly reports for the Chief Benefits Officer. This position is part of a two- person team providing comprehensive support for all conference benefits.
Essential Job Functions
- Primary Contact & Support (50%) Serve as the primary contact for all benefit questions (pension, health, etc.) from clergy, lay employees, treasurers, and administrative staff.
- Data Administration (30%) Manage all benefits-related data, including updates, generation, and posting across all systems.
- Board Support (5%) Support the Board of Pensions and Health Benefits by preparing meeting materials (agendas, minutes}, managing enrollment data, and generating reports.
- Communications (5%) Create and manage all benefit communications, including newsletters, emails, website content, and training materials.
- Strategic Planning Support (5%) Assist leadership with strategic planning to manage pension and healthcare liabilities and ensure conference financial health.
- Other duties as assigned (5%)
Major Accountabilities
- Thoroughly understand and interpret all benefit plans offered by Wespath and the Annual Conference.
- Coordinate all benefits-related workshops.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Wespath and the Annual Conference, providing all required data.
- Collaborate with the Office of the Treasurer to ensure accurate processing of contributions and payroll deductions.
- Coordinate daily benefits processing, including enrollments, billing errors, and claim issues.
- Carry out all policies, standards, and guidelines of the Conference Board of Pensions and Health Benefits.
- Provide necessary information for all required reporting to the Board and the conference at large.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- 3 years of experience as a benefits administrator or in a similar role is required.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Excellent computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities.
- Knowledge of the structure and polity of The United Methodist Church is helpful but not required.
Technical & Physical Requirements:
- This position operates in a professional office environment.
- Primary equipment includes a computer (90%), telephone (5%), and printer/scanner (5%).
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (5%).
- A background check is required.
Salary:
- $50,000 to $65,000 plus benefits
