Position Summary


This position will be responsible for the methodological and statistical facilitation of clinical research at LRH in the Department of Research and Sponsored Studies. This person shall ensure that the methodological approach and statistical analysis plans are designed appropriately for research studies at LRH. This position ensures that study designs and analyses are conducted according to currently accepted scientific practices and ensures that research outcomes at LRH are meaningful and acceptable to the wider scientific community and public. The person in this position must understand clinical research, pragmatic approaches to clinical data collection processes, and have the ability to communicate these complexities to novice and expert investigators, as well as administrators. Much of this position inherently is collaborative, however a successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in their ability to complete their job duties with autonomy.

Standard Work: Biostatistician and Methodologist
  • Serve as a resource to both new and experienced researchers in providing statistical and methodological expertise during the development of their research studies.
  • Collaborates with principal investigator, faculty, other investigators, clinical research coordinators, and external government or industry representatives to affect significant decisions regarding the project, and to jointly achieve objectives and timelines.
  • Documents analyses, creates summaries, and presents results in written and verbal form to requestors. Writes statistical text for study reports and publications. Prepares methods sections and analysis plans for incorporation in abstracts, manuscripts, grants.
  • Identifies potential data problems from analytic queries and takes appropriate initiative to guide the process of resolution.
  • Ensure research analysis is compliant with all LRH, regulatory, and sponsoring agency standards.
  • Interpret the scope of work for projects and forecasts monthly hours expected to complete each project. Creates timelines for statistical project management for investigators.
  • Collaborates with investigators on IRB, proposal development, and manuscript writing.
  • Providing training and educational opportunities to investigators and research staff on statistical methods, research design, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the department in growing research at LRH through departmental organization and project prioritization from their unique statistical perspective.


Competencies & Skills


Essential:

  • Skillful with quantitative research designs (experimental, quasi-experimental, clinical). Statistical analysis experience is required.
  • Experience in research protocol development and manuscript writing (project design, statistical analysis and sample size estimation/justification).
  • Working knowledge of statistical software packages (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R-project, etc.) as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of ethical issues surrounding human subjects research.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills - especially important in communicating complicated concepts in design and statistics to students and colleagues.
  • Solid command of the English language is required.
  • Prior role as a lead statistician on clinical trials and/or clinical research projects that have delivered the agreed-upon end products on time, and prior guidance of lower level or less experienced staff.

Master Degree

Essential:

Masters degree in statistics, applied statistics, biostatistics or related field. Preference for will be given to those with strong research design and methodological backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated evidence of prior multidisciplinary collaboration in the role of methodologist or statistician.
