Position Description: Sheridan’s Engineering Department serves a supporting role in the construction and sales efforts of the company. Preliminary designs, presentation materials, permitting, final design, material takeoffs, detailing, problem-solving, and construction support are some of the activities performed by the department. The Designer position is responsible for project Life Safety review and building design drawing development.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Design projects from conception to delivery. Develop building plans, elevations, schedules and details. Meet with clients and sales to determine project needs. Design original layouts using 2D and 3D software for sales presentations and construction. Refine images, fonts and layouts using CAD design software to maintain quality deliverables. Obtain and assemble data to complete building designs and compile measurements as necessary from jobsite visits. Coordinate and work with owners to compile information. Draw and detail scale plans for buildings and structures, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets and other data. Review project compliance and Maine Uniform Building & Energy Code (MUBEC). Perform Life Safety building reviews based on IBC and NFPA codes. Guide projects through the approval process with the State Fire Marshal and local CEO’s. Operate computer-aided drafting equipment and conventional tools to produce designs, working drawings, charts, forms and records. Write correspondence as needed.

Essential Qualifications: Associate degree preferred with 10 years Revit experience, or Revit certification, with 15 years of demonstrated success in the functions outlined in the above job responsibilities. Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD design software. Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry. Ability to work in a fast-paced design-build construction environment. Ability to produce accurate work with attention to detail on time and within budget. Team oriented and willing to put in the time and effort necessary to see a project through to a successful completion. Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision. Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and ability to learn quickly. Proficient in MS Office programs. Proficient in reading and understanding architectural, civil structural drawings and specifications. Must be able to use computer keyboard and focus attention to PC monitor for prolonged periods.
