The Clark County Building Department is seeking qualified and motivated candidates to apply for the Building Inspector I/II position within the Field Inspection Group. This position performs a variety of residential and light commercial building inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, local building codes, and adopted standards. The Building Inspector I/II conducts inspections of plumbing, mechanical, building and electrical systems for both new construction and existing structures. This role is ideal for individuals interested in a career path that combines fieldwork, public safety, and technical code knowledge. This position includes on-the-job training (OJT) in inspection procedures and in-depth code training to support advancement and professional certification.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL VAILD ICC OR OTHER NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED INSPECTION CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. APPLICATIONS MISSING THIS INFORMATION WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED FOR THE BUILDING INSPECTOR TRAINEE.
The Building Inspector I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Building Inspector II.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Valid ICC or other nationally recognized inspection certifications are required. Applications submitted without all valid ICC or other nationally recognized inspection certifications will only be considered for the Building Inspector Trainee.
Required certifications may be submitted in the following ways.
Education and Experience:
Building Inspector Trainee – High school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of either: full-time work experience or college level course work in construction, architecture, engineering, or a related field. Once the Building Inspector Trainee has completed two (2) years of full-time comparable building inspection training and attained a valid ICC as one of the following, a residential building inspector, residential electrical inspector, residential mechanical inspector, residential plumbing inspector, commercial building inspector, commercial electrical inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, special inspector, they are qualified to be promoted to the next level, Building Inspector I.
Building Inspector I - Equivalent to two (2) years of college course work in construction inspection or technology, pre-engineering or a field related to the work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a recognized trade AND two (2) years of full-time journey-level experience in the specified trade area. Must possess a valid ICC or other national recognized certification by the department in one of the following: commercial building inspector, commercial electrical inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, commercial inspector, residential inspector or special inspector. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Building Inspector II - In addition to the above: One (1) year of full-time experience in the inspection and enforcement of building codes. Must possess a valid ICC or other national recognized certification by the department in one of the following: commercial building inspector, commercial electrical inspector, combination inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, commercial inspector, residential mechanical inspector, residential inspector or special inspector.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. At the Building Inspector I and II level, must possess a valid ICC or other national recognized certification by the department in one of the following: commercial building inspector, commercial inspector, commercial electrical inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, residential building inspector, residential electrical inspector, residential plumbing inspector, residential mechanical inspector, residential inspector or special inspector.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment and drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings and inspect properties; strength and stamina to inspect various residential, commercial or industrial properties or other facilities which may include standing for extended periods of time, stooping, kneeling and walking on uneven terrain at construction sites, climbing ladders, scaffolding and stairs; strength to lift and carry up to 30 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
