URGENT looking for a BUSBAR TECHNICIAN fabricates, assembles, and installs busbars for electrical panels and switchgear by interpreting technical drawings and using specialized machinery. Key responsibilities include measuring, cutting, bending, and punching copper or aluminium busbars to precise specifications, performing quality checks, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. This role requires manual dexterity and the ability to work with various tools and machinery, while collaborating with engineers and other team members.

Key responsibilities

  • Fabrication: Cut, bend, punch, drill, and assemble busbars according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Assembly and installation: Fit fabricated busbars and other electrical components like breakers and relays into electrical panels or switchgear.
  • Measurement and accuracy: Take precise measurements for fabrication and ensure all work meets project requirements and tolerances.
  • Quality control: Perform quality checks, inspect work for accuracy and compliance, and assist with testing and commissioning activities.
  • Machinery operation: Safely and efficiently operate fabrication machinery such as cutting, bending, and punching machines, as well as hand tools.
  • Safety and compliance: Follow and promote workplace safety protocols, company standards, and relevant industry regulations.
  • Material handling: Receive, store, and manage busbar materials, and help minimize material waste.
  • Collaboration and communication: Work with a team, collaborate with design engineers, and report job status and issues to supervisors.

Skills and qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and fabrication instructions.
  • Proficiency in using fabrication machinery (e.g., cutters, benders, punches) and hand tools.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical safety practices.
  • Experience in switchgear panel assembly is often preferred.
  • Relevant vocational training or a diploma in an electrical trade is often required.
