The Business Development Director serves as a key leader at the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) of Kentuckiana), responsible for driving organizational growth through membership development, strategic partnerships, and effective communication initiatives.
This position plays a vital role in membership growth and retention by building strong relationships with current and prospective contractors, demonstrating the value of IEC membership, and developing programs that enhance engagement and satisfaction. The Director also leads efforts to increase visibility through marketing, sponsorship development, and impactful member communications.
Through these initiatives, the Business Development Director ensures that IEC remains a dynamic, connected, and value-driven organization serving electrical contractors and industry partners across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Growth, Retention & Engagement (40%)
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit new members and retain existing ones.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, associates, and industry partners.
- Create and deliver presentations that communicate the value of IEC membership.
- Conduct outreach to prospective members and follow up on leads from marketing and referrals.
- Coordinate member onboarding to ensure new members are welcomed and integrated into IEC activities.
- Develop and execute member engagement programs, appreciation events, and networking activities.
- Manage membership data, renewals, and engagement tracking to ensure accuracy and reporting integrity.
- Conduct member satisfaction surveys to assess needs and guide future engagement strategies.
Sponsorship, Partnerships & Grant Development (20%)
- Identify, pursue, and secure sponsorships and partnerships that align with IEC’s mission and events.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and community organizations.
- Research and assist with local, state, and federal grant opportunities to support IEC initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop sponsor recognition programs and promotional opportunities.
Marketing, Communications & Social Media (20%)
- Manage IEC’s communications strategy across social media, newsletters, and digital platforms.
- Create and curate engaging content highlighting IEC events, training opportunities, and member success stories.
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.
- Oversee promotional materials, press releases, and marketing campaigns for events and programs.
- Maintain and grow IEC’s online presence to attract new members and sponsors.
Events & Member Engagement Activities (15%)
- Plan, coordinate, and execute member events, meetings, and recognition programs.
- Collaborate with committees and volunteers to ensure events align with IEC’s mission and goals.
- Develop event sponsorship packages and secure financial support.
- Evaluate event success and incorporate member feedback for continuous improvement.
Data, Reporting & Administration (5%)
- Maintain accurate records of membership activity, sponsorships, and event participation.
- Track and analyze data to measure membership trends, engagement, and retention rates.
- Provide regular reports and insights to the Executive Director and Board.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in business development, membership management, or nonprofit advancement.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with social media, marketing, and digital communication tools.
- Demonstrated success in sponsorship development and partnership cultivation.
- Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
