Position Summary

The Buyer I will be responsible for overseeing assigned product lines and associated vendor partners to maximize margins and turns with minimal out of stocks. The Buyer I will need to effectively collaborate with other departments as required, particularly Sales and Operations, to achieve these objectives.

Essential Responsibilities

Manages and replenishes inventory levels to maximize inventory turns and minimize out of stocks using forecasting tools and ERP system.

Directs vendors relationships to drive margin through optimal pricing to make most profitable buying decisions.

Ensures vendors meet or exceed Novo’s quality, specification, packaging, and labeling requirements.

Assists quick resolution of issues around quality, discrepancies, claims, or other issues by working with Operations, Sales, Finance, and vendors.

Partners with the Purchasing Operations team to ensure accuracy of Purchase Orders for pricing, arrival dates and that any import or other documentation is in place.

Builds quotes for new SKUs or special orders and provides lead time information.

Prepares and provides product information and technical advice and direction relative to assigned product lines.

Oversees and maintains ERP system information for assigned products (i.e., unit quantities, minimums, buy levels, pricing etc.), making suggestions for improvement.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in purchasing or similar field.
  • Functional knowledge of computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.
  • Experience with ERP System Purchasing
  • Proven level of accuracy and detail orientation.
  • Capability to communicate efficiently with all levels of employees, management, customers,

and vendors both verbally and in written form.

  • Capacity to multi-task with speed and accuracy while prioritizing tasks and ability to maintain

excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a business field with emphasis on inventory management or

purchasing.

  • Prior experience in the millwork, lumber or building materials industry.
  • Working knowledgeable of Pivot Tables and Macros.
  • Math and analytical skills that include those required for the millwork and forest products

industry (i.e. calculating board footage, square feet, linear foot, etc.)

Travel Requirements

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area travel and

overnight may be expected.
