Electrical Engineer (Nitrile Glove Manufacturing)

Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of all electrical systems, controls, and automation within the nitrile glove manufacturing facility. This role is critical for maximizing line uptime, ensuring equipment safety, and supporting process efficiency through robust control programming and electrical infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Control Systems & Automation:
    • Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) used to control dipping line speed, temperature, chemical dosing, and curing oven settings.
    • Develop and manage the software and hardware for motion control systems, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo motors, and robotics used in the stripping and packaging process.
    • Implement and maintain data acquisition systems for process monitoring and reporting (SCADA systems).
  • Electrical Design & Infrastructure:
    • Design, specify, and oversee the installation of electrical equipment, wiring, conduit, and control panels, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and other relevant codes.
    • Create and maintain accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
    • Perform load calculations and ensure the reliability of the facility’s power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, and backup power supplies.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
    • Provide expert-level technical support to the Maintenance team for complex electrical and controls troubleshooting, minimizing production downtime.
    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on electrical failures and implement permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
    • Manage and execute calibration programs for critical electrical sensors and instrumentation.
  • Safety & Project Management:
    • Ensure all electrical work meets stringent facility safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and arc flash mitigation requirements.
    • Manage small to medium-scale electrical capital projects, including scope definition, contractor supervision, budget adherence, and commissioning.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in a continuous process manufacturing environment; experience with high-speed automation or chemical/polymer processing is highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text) and HMI development.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in industrial control systems, instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow sensors), and motor controls.
    • Proficiency with CAD software for electrical design.
    • Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet).
    • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements in a controlled manufacturing setting.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • A combination of office work and significant time spent on the production floor.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, occasionally climbing ladders, maneuvering in tight spaces, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to wear appropriate PPE, including safety shoes, safety glasses, and, potentially, specialized electrical safety gear.
  • Must be willing to be on-call or work extended hours to resolve critical production issues
