The CAD Designer/Technician is a crucial link between the Engineering and Production teams, responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining detailed technical drawings and 3D models of production equipment, tooling, and specialized components. The primary focus will be on the glove former machine design, dipping line machinery, and chemical delivery systems to ensure optimal efficiency, quality, and manufacturability of nitrile gloves.
-
Design & Modeling:
-
Create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D solid models of mechanical components, assemblies, and complete systems for the dipping line (e.g., chains, gears, rollers, ovens).
-
Design and refine glove formers (molds), focusing on ergonomics, size grading, surface finish, and geometry to optimize glove quality and efficient stripping.
-
Generate and maintain a complete Bill of Materials (BOM) for all designed components and assemblies.
-
Documentation & Standards:
-
Translate engineering concepts, sketches, and marked-up drawings (redlines) into final, accurate technical documentation using industry-standard drafting practices.
-
Ensure all designs and drawings comply with company specifications, safety standards, and relevant industry codes.
-
Maintain the electronic drawing archive, ensuring strict version control and documentation of all revisions and change orders.
-
Collaboration & Manufacturing Support:
-
Collaborate directly with Mechanical and Process Engineers to finalize designs and resolve complex dimensional or interference issues (clash detection).
-
Work with the Maintenance and Fabrication teams to provide on-site technical support, clarifying drawings and assisting with troubleshooting during machine builds, repairs, or upgrades.
-
Education: Associate's degree or technical certification in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), Mechanical Design, or a related Engineering Technology field.
-
Experience:
-
3+ years of professional experience in mechanical drafting or design within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
-
Experience in heavy equipment or chemical process equipment design is highly desirable.
-
Technical Skills:
-
Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or NX).
-
Strong understanding of drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5) and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
-
Familiarity with various manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for creating reports and BOMs.
-
Soft Skills:
-
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
-
Strong spatial reasoning and visualization skills.
-
Ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet project deadlines.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
-
Primarily an office-based role, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer station.
-
Ability to occasionally visit the production floor to take measurements, verify dimensions, and consult with the production team, which may involve exposure to noise, heat, and chemical odors (while adhering to all necessary PPE).
-
Ability to read and interpret detailed, small-text drawings and schematics.
