About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and well-connected Cannabis Buyer & Vendor Relations Manager to oversee product sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management across multiple retail locations. This role requires deep cannabis product knowledge, a strong understanding of market trends, and the ability to negotiate effectively to secure premium products at competitive prices.
The ideal candidate knows the industry inside and out — from flower quality and brand dynamics to consumer preferences and market pricing.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cultivators, processors, and brand representatives.
- Identify and onboard new brands and products that align with customer demand and company strategy.
- Coordinate with vendors on compliance, logistics, and product launches.
- Represent the company at industry events, vendor samplings, and trade shows.
Product Selection & Purchasing
- Evaluate cannabis product quality, including structure, aroma, terpene profile, potency, trim, and bag appeal.
- Lead product sampling and quality assessment sessions.
- Negotiate pricing, promotions, and marketing support to optimize margins.
- Curate a product mix that balances variety, quality, and profitability.
Inventory & Forecasting
- Develop and manage purchasing plans across multiple locations.
- Monitor inventory health, ensuring proper stock levels and minimizing overstock.
- Identify underperforming SKUs early and develop sell-through strategies.
- Track core KPIs such as gross profit, sell-through rates, and inventory turnover.
Analytics & Reporting
- Analyze sales and performance data to inform future buying decisions.
- Maintain vendor scorecards, pricing comparisons, and sales trend reports.
- Provide leadership with clear insights on category and brand performance.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in cannabis buying, vendor relations, or wholesale sales.
- Established relationships with cultivators, manufacturers, and brand reps.
- Deep understanding of cannabis product quality and consumer preferences.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with METRC and POS/inventory management systems is a plus.
- Highly organized, data-driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
