CCTV Engineer – Job DescriptionPosition Overview
A CCTV Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems and related security equipment. The role ensures that surveillance systems operate reliably and comply with safety, security, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Installation & Configuration
- Install CCTV cameras, NVR/DVR systems, IP cameras, access points, and related security hardware.
- Configure video management systems (VMS), network settings, storage solutions, and user access controls.
- Perform cable pulling, termination, and testing (Cat5/6, coaxial, fiber).
- Mount and align cameras for optimal coverage and image quality.
2. System Maintenance & Support
- Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and upgrades of CCTV infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues.
- Replace faulty components and ensure minimal downtime.
- Monitor system performance and perform firmware/software updates.
3. Technical Documentation
- Prepare installation reports, wiring diagrams, floor plans, and maintenance logs.
- Maintain up-to-date asset inventory of CCTV equipment.
- Document configuration settings and project handover files.
4. Network & Security Integration
- Integrate CCTV systems with existing IT networks, access control, alarms, and monitoring platforms.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols, data protection, and privacy regulations.
- Work with IT teams to manage IP addresses, VLANs, and network bandwidth issues.
5. Customer & Stakeholder Support
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to clients and internal teams.
- Conduct end-user training for monitoring staff or system operators.
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and project managers to complete installations on schedule.
Required Skills & QualificationsTechnical Skills
- Strong knowledge of CCTV technologies: IP/analog cameras, NVR/DVR, VMS platforms, storage systems.
- Proficiency in networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, routers, switches).
- Experience with cabling standards and electrical fundamentals.
- Familiarity with brands like Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Bosch, Milestone, etc.
- Ability to read technical drawings and site plans.
