Summary

Under moderate supervision after supportive training, the Reinsurance Analyst is responsible for learning end-to-end reinsurance processes, including contract set up, notifications, billing, queries, and collection of ceded recoverables.
The successful candidate will also use these skills to assist in due diligence and acquisition of new business.

Essential Functions

  • Calculate and prepare billings
  • Ensure booked financials match calculated billings and make adjustments where necessary.
  • Research & identification of reinsurance (Treaty & Facultative) for direct claims and assist in contract/policy structure set up and maintenance
  • Develop and send initial notices and updates to intermediaries/reinsurers with appropriate information
  • Review open accounted balances
  • Research and respond to reinsurer queries, working with direct claims where necessary
  • Pursue and collect outstanding reinsurer recoverables for assigned claims through reconciliation, collection, settlement, offset or other means.
  • Independently and proactively research and resolve historic open balance transactions and accounting discrepancies with reinsurers and brokers
  • Escalate disputed reinsurance recoverables and assist Inside Counsel with resolution strategies.
  • Lead initiatives to improve relationships with reinsurance market
  • Maintain diary system resulting in continuous targeted collection efforts.
  • Assist in the application of cash and clear open ledger balances
  • Assist in facilitating internal and external party audits
  • Participate in department initiatives to improve protocols and processes for timely and efficient billing, collection and clearing of aged balances
  • Follow all established processes
Related Functions
  • Support to reinsurance counsel on pending arbitration and litigation as necessary
  • Support commutations, novations, consolidations, acquisitions and migrations as needed
  • Support Unit Manager in management reporting
  • Support acquisition activities
  • Support Schedule F mitigation projects & initiatives
Required Skills
  • Ability to interpret reinsurance contracts & structures
  • Comprehensive understanding of underlying direct claims, including coverage issues and allocation analysis relating to multi-year injury claims
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate and organize large data sets effectively in Excel
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Organized, accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to shift priorities and focus as needed

Experience

4+ years of experience in reinsurance processes/collections preferred but training will be given to the right candidate.

Required Education
4 year college degree

Preferred Education or Certification
Math and/or Business and/or Economics degree

Travel
Infrequent – as needed

This position operates in a professional, collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
