Key ResponsibilitiesA chef's duties extend beyond just cooking and often include a combination of culinary and managerial tasks, depending on their rank and the size of the establishment:

  • Menu planning and recipe development: Creating new, innovative dishes and designing cohesive menus.
  • Kitchen management: Overseeing daily kitchen operations, including staffing, scheduling, and training junior chefs.
  • Inventory and cost control: Monitoring food and labor costs, ordering supplies, and managing inventory to minimize waste and ensure profitability.
  • Quality control: Ensuring all dishes meet high standards for taste, presentation, and consistency before being served to customers.
  • Hygiene and safety: Enforcing strict food safety and sanitation regulations in the kitchen.
