Title: Chief Human Resources Officer
Program: Varick Street Headquarters
Salary Range: $240,000 - $250,000 per year

Program Overview:
The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) plays a critical role in advancing Project Renewal’s mission by developing and executing strategic human resource initiatives. This includes talent management, organizational development, performance management, training, diversity, equity, inclusion, and ensuring the overall well-being and growth of staff. The CHRO fosters an environment of trust, emotional safety, accountability, and career development to empower staff to achieve meaningful results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Chief Human Resources Officer include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Reports to: President & Chief Executive Officer
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees Director of HR Operations, Director of Policies & Benefits, Managers for Payroll and HR Systems, and HR team members.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with Executive and Senior Leadership teams, Board of Directors, Directors, and staff across the organization.
  • Strategic HR Leadership & Governance
  • Lead and implement HR strategies that align with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and a strategic partner to executive and senior leadership on organizational and management issues.
  • Work directly with the Board to provide HR insights, workforce analytics, and strategic recommendations that support organizational priorities.
  • Talent Acquisition, Retention & Workforce Planning
  • Develop and execute comprehensive talent acquisition, retention, and succession plans to build a strong and sustainable workforce.
  • Implement a targeted recruitment strategy to attract and retain employees aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Leverage HR data analytics to drive strategic decision-making, optimize workforce planning, improve engagement, and assess the impact of HR initiatives.
  • Employee Relations, Leadership Development & Training
  • Address and manage complex employee relations matters to ensure timely resolution and a healthy work environment.
  • Build and implement managerial training programs and coaching frameworks to enhance leadership effectiveness among Program Directors and senior managers.
  • Develop and oversee training, learning, and development initiatives to support staff growth, leadership capacity, and career progression.
  • Build leadership capacity through structured coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Policy, Compliance & HR Operations
  • Develop and standardize management policies for Program Directors to ensure consistency, fairness, and clarity in operational practices.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in HR operations.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion by fostering a respectful, discrimination-free workplace and embedding DEI best practices into organizational strategies.
  • Leverage HR systems and integrate AI technologies to enhance administrative processes, promote efficiency, and assess opportunities for refining workflows within the organization.
  • Stay abreast of changes in labor laws and regulations at federal, state, and local levels, ensuring that HR policies and practices remain compliant.
  • Compensation, Benefits & Employee Well-Being
  • Design and oversee compensation and benefits programs that are competitive and cost-effective.
  • Negotiate benefits and healthcare packages to balance cost and value for staff.
  • Drive organizational culture initiatives by gathering employee feedback to enhance alignment, engagement, and fulfillment.
  • Plan and manage the HR budget
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in HR or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of HR experience, including five years in executive roles.
  • SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated a commitment to Project Renewal’s mission.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic HR initiatives, influence organizational culture, and build trust.
  • Expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills.
  • An analytical, data-driven problem-solving approach.
  • Exceptional coaching and team development abilities.
  • Experience with HR systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
