The City of Topeka is seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the City’s technology strategy and operations. The CIO aligns information technology (IT) initiatives with goals, manages IT budgets, oversees IT staff, and ensures the City’s technology supports its overall objectives. This position also plays a key role in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and data management.

What you'll do:

  • Plan and direct all information technology operations, including enterprise systems design, systems analysis, applications development, data center operations, and citywide data communications.
  • Oversee the management of in-house and inter-building network infrastructure, including fiber optic systems.
  • Oversee, facilitate, and direct the citywide telephone system.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the IT team.
  • Provide long range and comprehensive planning for the acquisition of all new technology and services and the upgrade of existing equipment.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a deep understanding of IT infrastructure, data governance, enterprise systems, and emerging technologies.
  • Is an innovative and strategic thinker with the ability to analyze information, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions.
  • Has excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex IT issues, risks, and solutions in plain language.
  • A collaborative leader and team player.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field with five years of experience in administration of information systems and technology, with an increasing level of responsibility throughout to include personnel management. OR
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field is required with at least 10 years of experience in administration of information systems and technology, with an increasing level of responsibility throughout to include personnel management.
  • Experience in project management and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Relevant certification in IT management, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Technology Manager (CITM) preferred.

Annual Entry Salary: Up to $156,134 depending on qualifications
