Role Purpose

To provide strategic leadership and professional oversight of all nursing services at Peter Odili Specialist Hospital (POSH). The Chief Nursing Officer will ensure the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and workforce development. The role is responsible for developing and implementing nursing policies, driving quality improvement, and fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead, plan, and manage all nursing services across POSH, ensuring delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate care.

· Establish and monitor nursing standards, policies, and evidence-based clinical practices.

· Oversee nursing workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and professional development.

· Provide leadership in accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and adherence to international standards (JCI/ISO).

· Drive patient safety, infection prevention and control (IPC), and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

· Collaborate with medical, quality, and administrative teams to achieve hospital-wide objectives.

· Serve as an advocate for nurses and patients, ensuring a supportive and professional practice environment.

· Monitor and report on nursing performance indicators, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes.

· Mentor and build nursing leadership capacity within the hospital.

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) or equivalent; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.

· Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) license.

· 10–15 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

· Proven experience in hospital operations, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

· Familiarity with accreditation standards (local and international).
