Job Summary

The Preschool Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the preschool, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and providing a safe, nurturing environment for children. Key responsibilities and qualifications include:​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Implementation: Design and implement educational programs that meet state standards and support children's developmental needs. ​
  • Staff Management: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate preschool staff, fostering a collaborative and professional environment. ​
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the preschool complies with all applicable state laws and regulations, including maintaining appropriate licenses and certifications. ​
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage the preschool's budget, including allocating funds for programs, staff salaries, and facility maintenance. ​
  • Parent and Community Relations: Communicate effectively with parents regarding their children's progress and engage with the community to promote preschool programs. ​
  • Assists or fills in for Preschool teachers when needed

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
  • 12 Core semester units in early childhood education/development.
  • 3 semester units in Administration or Staff relations
  • 4 years’ teaching experience in a supervised group Child Care Center.
  • Alternatives include
  • A degree in child development, 3 units Administration and 2 years teaching experience
  • BA degree in child development, 3 units administration and 1 year teaching experience
  • Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit
  • Experience: Several years of experience in early childhood education, including supervisory or administrative roles.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; proficiency in curriculum development; and knowledge of state regulations and licensing requirements. ​

These responsibilities and qualifications ensure that a Preschool Director can effectively manage the preschool's operations, provide high-quality early childhood education, and comply with California's regulatory standards.​

Physical Requirements

Mobility: Ability to move around the entire preschool facility

Standing/Walking: Periodic standing and walking during classroom visits, staff supervision, and interacting with children.

Lifting: Occasionally lift or carry children or supplies (generally 25-40lbs).

Bending/Kneeling: May need to get down to a child’s level, assist in classroom activities, or respond to emergencies.

Vision/Hearing: Sufficient to observe and monitor children, read reports, and communicate effectively.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to use a computer, phone, and other office/classroom equipment.

Stamina: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional stress.

Speaking/Communications: Strong verbal communication needed for meetings, staff supervision, and family interactions. Bi-lingual a plus.

Work Schedule & Compensation

Hours vary based on center needs Monday-Friday

Compensation is based on experience, education and center needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $49,187.12 - $59,236.11 per year
