Job Summary
The Chiller Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing chiller systems and associated HVAC equipment. This role ensures optimal performance, energy efficiency, and reliability of cooling systems in commercial, industrial, or residential facilities. The technician will follow safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and company procedures to deliver high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on chiller systems (air-cooled, water-cooled, centrifugal, screw, and absorption chillers).
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control issues related to chiller equipment.
- Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Install and commission new chiller units, including piping, wiring, controls, and related components.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, testing water quality, and verifying sensor accuracy.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
- Document service activities, findings, parts used, and recommendations for future repair.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and refrigerant-handling requirements.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide on-call support when required.
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and facility managers to complete work efficiently.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or technical/vocational certificate in HVAC, refrigeration, or related field.
- Minimum 4- 5 years of experience servicing chiller or HVAC equipment (experience level can be adjusted).
- Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Ability to diagnose issues using tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and control analyzers.
- EPA refrigeration certification (or equivalent local certification).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
