We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our engineering team supporting the development and expansion of metal recycling facilities. This role involves preparing detailed 2D and 3D site models, infrastructure layouts, and utility routing for new and existing industrial properties. The ideal candidate will collaborate with civil engineers, environmental consultants, and operations teams to produce high-quality 3D design models and construction drawings that support safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 2D and 3D models of civil sites, including grading, drainage, paving, and utility systems, using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Perform grading design, including regrading and redesign of existing industrial sites.
- Conduct backfill and earthwork volume calculations and prepare accurate quantity takeoffs.
- Perform stormwater calculations using hydrograph software to ensure proper drainage design.
- Create and maintain pipe network models, including pipe and drainage ditch sizing.
- Analyze and map drainage areas, producing detailed drainage area maps.
- Process survey data to generate accurate surface and terrain models.
- (Bonus) Experience processing data from 3D scanners or drone LiDAR for enhanced modeling accuracy.
- Produce and revise 2D and 3D drawings, including base maps, site layout plans, cross-sections, and construction details.
- Coordinate CAD and 3D design files with input from engineering, environmental, and operations teams.
- Assist with visual renderings or conceptual 3D layouts to support design reviews and client presentations.
- Support permit submittal packages, including plan sets, exhibits, and digital models.
- Maintain organized drawing files, follow company CAD and 3D modeling standards, and ensure model integrity.
- Update as-built 3D models and drawings based on field data or redline markups.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Software Proficiency:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D (required) – strong working knowledge of surfaces, alignments, grading tools, pipe networks, and 3D visualization.
- Bluebeam Revu – for PDF markups and plan reviews.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook – for reporting and communication.
- Experience with GIS, Revit, or InfraWorks (a plus but not required).
- Familiarity with hydrograph and stormwater modeling software (preferred).
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate degree or certification in Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 3–7 years of CAD design experience, with at least 2 years in civil or industrial site development.
- Proven experience in 2D and 3D modeling with Civil 3D, including grading, drainage, and utility plans.
- Understanding of industrial site design elements, including equipment access, stormwater systems, and permitting requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and file management.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with project engineers and managers.
Preferred:
- Mechanical background or experience in industrial environments is highly desirable.
- Experience in metal recycling, heavy industrial, or environmental facility design.
- Familiarity with stormwater best practices, erosion control, and local permitting processes.
- Knowledge of land development codes, 3D visualization tools, and construction drawing standards.
- Experience with LiDAR data processing and drone-based surveying workflows.
